What is skin pigmentation?

Pigmentation refers to the colour and tone of our skin which varies greatly from person to person and provides an ongoing puzzle for modern day scientists. A human’s skin colour is mostly dependent on the presence of a pigment called melanin, which everybody has in his or her genetic profile.

What are skin blemishes?

Sometimes our outer layer of skin adopts different spots, patches, marks and colourings caused by factors including our genes and environment. Blemishes is a word used to define a wide range of different skin conditions, usually ones that our patients are not happy about.

There are many different types of distinctive blemishes that affect the appearance of a person’s skin. These can include acne, papules, blackheads, cysts and milia. These imperfections and inconsistencies are very common and are mostly nothing to worry about from a medical perspective.*

Similar to some other treatments our Ozmedica Clinic chemical peels remove the top layer of skin cells using a safe and trusted chemical liquid. Our range of chemical peels help to alleviate inconsistent pigmentation and even eliminate unwanted surface scarring.

Microdermabrasion is a quick and simple facial treatment that is excellent in the treatment of acne, especially with our younger visitors. The process involves small crystals and a buffing method to gently remove the outer most layer of dead skin cells. With the younger, softer and smoother skin cells remaining the overall result is apparent instantly. This well-regarded procedure is also helpful in treating dark pigmentation spots, acne scars and wrinkles.

Whatever your skin concerns might be, our friendly and experienced professionals will tailor a suitable treatment schedule to produce the best possible result for your individual requirements.

What causes different pigmentation?

The causes of variances in skin pigmentations are undeniably environmental, genetic and geographic. Due to long-term effects such as climate, evolution and changes to UV sunlight humans have very different skin tones across the species. Generally people from warmer climates have darker skin compared to those from cooler climates with lighter skin.

Melanin is essentially the body’s naturally occurring sun protection for our skin.

The genetics responsible for our different skin colours has recently been found to be far more complex than scientists believed. A decade-long study by the Broad Institute of MIT in USA uncovered that the number of genes involved with a person’s pigmentation is much greater than was once thought, many of these genes are yet to be discovered.

Long-term Benefits

We have consulted with many patients over the years that often explained to us the self-consciousness or even embarrassment that they feel as a result of their skin inconsistencies. Addressing these imperfections and witnessing the client’s rejuvenated confidence is the most rewarding part of our business.

Often the targeted treatments available at Ozmedica Clinic, which are aimed at skin blemishes and unusual pigmentations, are so successful that repeat schedules are not required. Which is fantastic. They are designed to smooth out colouring and surface variations, reduce the signs of aging including wrinkles and age spots plus reignite your skin’s natural beauty.

In their own words, customers describe feelings of self-assurance and happiness following their treatments, which warms our hearts. Although many visitors come in with special occasions in mind or singular issues that they want resolved, it is great to learn of their overall positive outcomes when their treatment is complete.

* Some blemishes can be a sign of a serious medical condition such as skin cancer, so if you are ever in doubt or concerned seek the advice of a medical professional immediately.
